Spawning in Conan Exiles for the first time can bring its many challenges to the table, as the only tutorial available to get you started is The Exiles Journey (Journey Steps). However, this is intended and forces newcomers to discover the game’s mechanics, thereby promoting progression. Additionally, the environment itself is hostile towards anyone, making players easily lose hunger or become thirsty. Quick Note: Removing your Bracelet will cause you to commit suicide.
Your Journey Steps, start out simple and slowly become complex. This allows you to see the character’s progression or advancements while you play, making an outline of what goals should be worked on next. For example, a few first milestones are movement-based actions, which familiarize you with controls. Other ones would be collecting items or crafting clothing, as the journey goals give excellent suggestions. Focusing on this earlier than later is best for survival, as it helps you naturally learn the game. Dismissing journey chapters might indirectly throw off your character’s progression, especially for new players.
Exiled Lands - The Exiles Journey - the wiki page for the Exiled lands Journey Steps.
Isle of Siptah - The Exiles Journey (Siptah) - the wiki page for the Isle of Siptah Journey Steps.
Savage Wilds - Follows the normal The Exiles Journey but does have some differences in the locals.
After the loading screen, you'll be placed in a seashore. You will see Ferongar. Talk to him to get “Welcome to Purgatory”. Use this guide to help you navigate the AOC Quests!
Most of these suggestions are survival tactics, which could be applied elsewhere. However, our main focus is player progression so you can smoothly transition from noob to pro. These tips and tricks should be applicable for everyone, which will greatly improve the gameplay experience. Whether you’re wanting a specific character build or trying Conan Exiles for the first time, using our advice will make you last longer in the harsh environment. Enough about all that, it’s time to jump straight into them!
When you spawn in the new world, you’re greeted with an already hostile environment. There is no escape, you must move forward and locate materials to use for crafting. Your player already has some basic recipes for necessary equipment, such as an axe and clothing. However, as you do this there will be challenges from enemies to managing thirst levels. In order to succeed in Conan Exiles, players will need to sustain their hunger, water, energy, and resources without dying to the harsh world. It’s easier said than done, but in the following section we’ll walk you through what can be done to survive.
In almost every survival game, the management of hunger, thirst, and stamina is basic. A good tip would be to avoid unwanted movements, as this depletes your energy levels. If you always sprint around, then becoming thirsty and hungry will quickly happen. Limiting such activities will make your character last longer in the exiled world, but this doesn’t mean you crouch walk everywhere.
In regards to food, if you're still down at the river (Exiled Lands) and have come across Shalebacks, there will be a nearby nest that will have eggs. Eating them will give you Regen on both Water and Health. Additionally, the following will give you a head start to stave off starvation for a while until you can manage to kill larger animals. If you're on Isle of Siptah - In the shallows of the sea you will find Oysters. These when eaten raw will make you a bit sick, but once you can make a campfire they can be cooked fast and will last a bit in your pack. Other Beginner Foods: Fat Grub - For the strong stomach, these grubs offer both food and moisture in the midst of the desert. Handful Of Insects - To the starving, a handful of insects can be enough to stave off hunger for a while. To establish a better and more stable food supply, you will first have to craft a few things, stone tools, a campfire and a sleeping bag!
The Exiled Lands are filled with a variety of different creatures, animals and beasts both common and uncommon in Hyboria. They can be found, hunted and harvested for Resources and Food to aid you in your struggle against both the elements and other exiles. Animals like Shalebacks and Rabbits are plentiful, yielding bone, meat and hide when harvested after killing them. Hide can be tanned to make leather, perfect for Crafting strong and tough Armor. It’s a no-brainer to avoid unnecessary fights, as this gives you the best probability of staying alive.
Collecting basic materials and resources will become your bread and butter. It is essential to put your focus on collecting Plant Fiber, Branches and Stone that are either on the ground or picked up by harvesting bushes. The best suggestion for new players is to interact with everything, from stones to plants. This will give you items needed to progress through journey chapters and your character. Without interactions, there is hardly anything to do in the game.
Utilizing the Crafting System
Crafting is a critical element in Conan. Resources are required beforehand and once enough is collected, you may build clothing items, new weapons, useful tools, and so much more. Open up your inventory with I to begin crafting on the right side. You'll start with a few recipes every exile starts with. Basic Clothing and some tools. To have more crafting options you'll need to unlock them with the Recipes menu.
One of the best things to do is gathering lots of materials, then building a base for storing valuables and saving progression. Doing this will make dying a little less painful, but don’t get too attached.
To have more crafting options you'll need to unlock them with the Recipes menu. The menu of all the Recipes will give you access to a lot more recipes - or a little more, depending on your Character's level. Just hit the "Unlock"-button below the Recipes. Note that not every recipe can be unlocked by the main recipe screen. The different icon buttons at the top right go much further in depth.
Armor is equipable and most grant passive Attribute bonuses to your character. The most noticeable use for armor is to protect the character against physical damage. Armors may also reduce temperature effects. Most armor can also be dyed.
Looking at each piece you can add the values and if you wear that armor, that total will be shown on the Inventory screen. From that, and your selection of temperature resistance, bonus attributes and aesthetics, you can choose what armor you want to craft or loot. If you tab over to the Stats screen you will see the effect of that armor as Total Damage Reduction = X% (bottom). As the armor value rises, the damage reduction also rises. So, better armor and you last longer and are able to fight more powerful enemies.
Armor comes in light, medium and heavy and each has its own benefits. With light armor, you can carry more, dodge faster and run farther, but you sacrifice defense. With heavy armor your defenses are pretty incredible and you can face quite a few bosses, but can't dodge their attacks well or carry off much of the loot. Medium is a blend of the above two and increases your defenses over light, and increases your mobility over heavy. Your choice is a matter of your most enjoyable playstyle.
But let's return to getting hit. Your health damage was not equal to the damage output of your enemy. Your armor absorbed a part of that noted by the total damage reduction. That absorption was not lost, but spread across every piece you wear and reduces the 'health' of the armor, the health of the armor is called Durability. Using both you can see what happened to that damage output. When your armor Durability reaches zero, it no longer protects you and must be repaired (if possible), but the weight of the armor remains. Also, every stat goes to zero, temperature resistance and any bonus that armor had. Lost.
The various shields in Conan Exiles. Players can block with their shield to make their opponents stagger.
(In compilation now since 3.0 so much has changed)
Choose to worship one of the gods and gain their favor as Religion options. Throughout the game, you'll have the option to worship any, all or none of the gods as you see fit. By choosing one of the various gods, you will start the game with the basic knowledge as an acolyte of their religion. Knowledge granted by following the gods will give you certain advantages. Right from the start you will be able to build an altar to your god, and from the altar you can craft your religious artifact and get access to some helpful Recipes.
Crom - The "God who requires no worship." By choosing Crom you will not get the knowledge of an acolyte, as he is the god if you do not wish to get involved in the religion system.
Set - The "God of serpents and sacrifice." Set's followers are granted powers that align with their god, protection from Poison and the ability to turn Snakes into Arrows.
Yog - The "God of cannibals." Yog, the Lord of Empty Abodes, demands that his followers consume flesh that has been ritually purified and in return, Yog grants his followers blessed Weapons and Armor.
Mitra - The "God of right and justice." Mitra purports to be a god of right and justice, Mitra's followers are given the ability to create Clothing and Weapons.
Ymir - The "God of snow, storm, and war." The Nordheim worship Ymir, the Frost Giant, Lord of Storm and War, who lives (according to legend), in Valhalla, his castle far in northern Vanaheim.
Derketo - The "Goddess of fertility, death, and lust." Derketo, the Goddess of lust, death and fertility, who is the Whore of Set, and the Sable Queen. The dual nature of Derketo encourages her worshippers to walk the knife-blade between lust and death.
Zath - “Zath, the spider-god of Yezud”. Zath's worshippers believe that the great spider-god walks the earth, and must be served by humankind. Indeed, the giant spiders which have occasionally been seen in the hills near Yezud are testaments to Zath's power.
Jhebbal Sag - The "God of animals, nature, and savagery", The lord of all animals and beasts, including men. *This religion must be learned by either the Midnight Grove Dungeon, or by executing a Jhebal Sag priest on IOS or on one of the Modded maps*.
Be prepared to die, as you will die. It happens, and most likely a lot. On The Pack Conan Exiles Servers we do not espouse the use of Death Drops ALL. Meaning you keep your gear, hotbar, and inventory. You do however loose a small percentage of your EXP.
Many of the dark places in Conan Exiles are filled with corrupting magic. When you explore deep caves or ancient ruins such as the Unnamed City, the magic which still lingers there slowly corrupts you. When you fight magical creatures, such as demons or undead, their very presence spreads Corruption. Corruption permanently reduces your maximum Health, and the more you are exposed to the corruption, the worse it gets.
When corrupted, you need to spend time in the presence of Entertainer Thralls to remove it. Once the corruption has been removed, your maximum health will return to normal. Even though it is dangerous to seek out such dark places, they are often filled with valuable treasures or mystical Lore. And those that choose the Sorcerous Path will need to find these places to stock up on corruption to level their traits.
Buildings in Conan Exiles have 3 different Tiers of building supplies and materials. Each Tier increases the player's survivability and gives added protection against the weather, Thralls, Creatures and purges.
Tier 1 Buildings - Sandstone or Flotsam (Stone and Wood to build) - Damaging such buildings requires steel weaponry.
Tier 2 Buildings - Stonebrick (Bricks and Shaped Wood to build) - Undamageable by Weapons, need explosive items.
Tier 3 Buildings - Reinforced (Hardened Brick, Shaped Wood and Steel Reinforcement) or Stormglass - (Hardened Brick, Shaped Wood and Steel Reinforcement) Undamageable by Weapons, need explosive items.
Many other of the DLC Building materials follow the same pattern of either Tier 1 Wood based and T3 Being top tier of the bricks, formed wood, and special reinforcements.
Buildings also have a Foundation requirement. Any building uses a support system that needs to be supported by pillars or connected to a foundation in some way.
Equipping a Repair Hammer will show you the quality of your buildings, and will give you a chance to see the materials needed to fix. You can craft a Repair Hammer with your first building.
All land claims in Conan Exiles reach from the Map Ceiling to the Below ground Axis in a 100 foundation wide arc outside the edge of your base buildings.
A full description of The Purge is presented here:
The Exiled Lands are filled with a variety of different creatures, animals and beasts both common and uncommon in Hyboria. They can be found, hunted and harvested for Resources and Food to aid you in your struggle against both the elements and other exiles.
Thralls are NPCs in Conan Exiles. They can be used as servants, either working at crafting stations, as companions following the player or as lookouts guarding buildings.
From the most docile to the most dangerous beasts and creatures alike, the Player can tame a loyal companion to follow them into battle or a fierce guardian to defend that which is most sacred to them.
NPC camps are scattered throughout the lands. You will encounter mostly T1 to T3 in most camps, though now and then you will find a T4 Named thrall that appears in specific spots. Many of the best T4 Named thralls are found with in the PURGE. A mechanic that results from the amount of the actions you do within the server. When your purge meter hits 75% a purge can spawn and be drawn to your location or base. Thralls can be found in villages and campfires around the Isle of Siptah, as well as in the Surges.
Thralls are captured by knocking them out with one of the many truncheons or blunted weapons in the game, by depleting the thin white bar above their health. Using any of the blunted weapon fittings on Truncheons decreases the time needed to knock out thralls. The Thrall will wake up when the white bar has fully recovered, so wearing it down regularly makes the thrall stay unconscious. Though it is worth noting that while the thrall is bound with any kind of binding, the white bar will temporarily stop recovering. Using a binding of some sort on them makes it possible to drag them, on foot or horseback. Thralls remain unconscious for 10 minutes inside any player's render range when not bound to any kind of bindings - longer when no player is in render range.
Place them into one of these buildings (via interaction): Lesser Wheel of Pain, Wheel of Pain, Greater Wheel of Pain to break them and make them pliant to commands. Thrall crafting time, or the speed at which thralls can be produced, is affected by the level of the thrall itself as well as the level of a Taskmaster assigned to the Wheel of Pain. The type of Wheel of Pain has no effect on crafting times; nor does Food type. Gruel, or most food, must be placed inside the Wheel of Pain to act as "fuel".
Baby animals of all sorts can be found all across the different Lands of Conan Exiles! Nabbing them up into your inventory, allows you to tame them in their given taming pens! BUT BE WARY! Where babies are, is surely a parent lurking nearby waiting to eat your face off, for messing with their baby.
When you find a baby animal, try running up to them and pressing E will place the baby animal into your inventory. Take them home and place them in the appropriate shelter to house and tame your new future friends:
Stables are for foals only. Slot count 1.
Animal Pens are for most other pets. They come in 3 different tiers and each has 5 available pens:
Feeding
Placing a baby pet into the appropriate shelter will not, on its own, start the taming process. Certain foods must also be placed in the shelter with the baby in order to have it grow into a trusty adult companion over time. Each baby animal has a preferred set of foods, and feeding them certain foods will give some baby pets an increased chance of growing into a greater and/or more powerful version of that pet. Please consult the Wiki for a full explanation of Taming.
Experience is a measure of progression of Characters in Conan Exiles. Earning sufficient experience allows a character to gain a level and earn both Attribute points and Feat Points.
Experience is earned in the following ways:
Slaying Enemies - Each Creature is worth a set amount of experience when killed, as are NPCs and thralls.
Exploring - While exploring Locations across the Maps, players gain an increasing amount of experience based on how many locations they have already discovered.
Crafting - Experience is earned from Crafting whether Weapons, Armor, or Building parts. Each of the items that are crafted awards an amount of experience to the character that crafts it, or if crafted on a workbench, to the character that queued the crafting up on the workbench.
Gathering/Harvesting - Each gathered item awards 1 point of experience. This means that Harvesting with higher tier tools will gain more experience due to yielding more resources.
Passive XP gain - Whilst online, characters gain 10 experience every 10 seconds on vanilla settings. On our Exiled lands you will get 30 experience every 10 seconds, and on the Isle of Siptah you will gain 15 experience every 10 seconds.
The desert is harsh enough to have additional players as Enemies (PVP). Work with your neighbors or friends to create a Guild and live in harmony, while punishing your enemies. Once you have created a guild you can invite others, or join other people's creations. In regards to guild building, Foundations and other Buildings allow for ownership of a certain radius, and if you're not part of the guild you will not be able to build on or close to their foundations.
To invite someone into your guild, stand next to the person looking at them, and hold E which will send an invite to your guild.
