Currently, there are ten DLCs, for ARK: Survival Evolved. DLC's can also be called Expansion Pack's. Two new Maps have been accepted into the Free DLC Designation, and will be released in Dec. 2021 and June 2022 respectively.
Lost Island, expansive 150 sq. kilometer map where Survivors will encounter new biomes, challenges, and mysterious ruins! ARK - Free DLC Coming Dec. 2021!
Fjordur, designed by - Trappel22 & Nekatus. Accepted as the First Official DLC of 2022!
Expansion Pack - An Expansion Pack is a direct addition to the main game by adding new maps, creatures, equipment, and content without changing the core game-play mechanics. Expansion Packs are also entirely compatible with the main game, and content can be transferred from an expansion to vanilla servers and vice versa. Expansion maps can be both a PAID DLC (Canon Map) or a Free DLC, considered a Non-Official Map. Mods created by Modders, are also additions to the main game by adding new maps, creatures, equipment, and content that does change the core game-play mechanics.
Canon Maps - Most ARK: Survivors consider the Ten PAID Expansion Packs the "CANON Maps". "Canon" refers to material related to the story that is considered "official", by the story creator(s) or the audience.
Non-Canon: these are maps that are created by Modders and NOT by the Main ARK: Survival Story creator(s). Hence being called "Non Official". They were part of the Mods for the game and were accepted by Wild Card, the creators of ARK: Survival into the halls of the Official Maps.
Modded Maps -Arecreated by Modders, and are also additions to the main game by adding whole new worlds sometimes complete with their own lore and storyline.
The Studio Wildcard team is thrilled to finally complete the ARK saga with the release of ARK: Genesis Part 2. Thanks to Ark’s passionate community and a love for new content that fits its mold, what were once straightforward plans have become so much more. Through in-game events, free DLC maps, and continued game updates, we’re also polishing, addressing player feedback and fixing issues to make it a better game for everyone. So, what’s next? Not TEK, that's for sure.
As we look forward to a primarily primitive-themed ARK 2, we'll continue to provide meaningful updates and experiences to our ARK 1 survivors.
New maps, content & many patches for Ark 1 confirmed
Developer confirms: After it has been a poorly kept secret for a long time, the developers officially announced in their Community Crunch that they will continue to provide Ark Survival Evolved with updates.
Above all, you can look forward to the release of several new maps for Ark Survival Evolved. In addition, the team would like to continue to deliver in-game events and smaller content bites.
All new features for Ark 1 in 2021 & 2022
New maps from the community as official maps for Ark! Lost Island/Dec. 2021 and Fjordur/June 2022 so far!
Seasonal in-game events such as the Turkey Trial, Halloween or Christmas event
Unspecified new content – maybe skins?
When is it that time? There is currently Two release dates for the two new Official DLCs, but for many of the new updates mentioned, information is scanty until they are certain of the content. The only thing that is certain is that much of it, if not all of it, will be released before Ark 2 comes out. Ark 2’s release is officially dated spring 2022. Since Fjordur is slated for June 2022. I would guess Ark 2 has been pushed back till the 4th quarter of 2022.
The LORE of the ARKS:
The ARKs are space stations intended to house living organisms such as Humans, Creatures, and Plants. These ARKs were sent up prior to a global-level extinction event in which Element wiped out the Humans.
The ARKs are powered by the Obelisks, and each ARK contains at least one Guardian. When a certain signal is given from the Earth through a strange Tek machine via a Specimen Implant, this causes all ARK to slowly descend onto earth, forming a giant seed that blooms over the Earth's wasteland, turning it into a blooming environment that once was before the global-level extinction event, and eventually rid the raw, corrupt Element that had overgrown over it.
Proto-ARKs can be found on Extinction and are prototype ARKs. Unlike the environments that were sent up into space, Humans and Creatures can freely enter and leave the Proto-ARKs. When entering or leaving, a de-materialization effect will occur.
3 Proto-ARKs can be found throughout Extinction, two of which are operational, Desert Dome, Snow Dome, and Crater Forest. The Crater Forest was a failed experiment. This underground forest was formerly an operational, forest-themed Proto-ARK but sunk into the ground.
The Homo Deus are beings created to watch over the ARKs. These beings can rarely resurrect any Humans. One did and created a new Homo Deus, A notable one, "The One Who Waits", who guides the survivor through The Island, Scorched Earth, and Aberration to Extinction via the use of Notes and Dossiers.
