Logging out on an Ark Survival Evolved Server can be a dangerous matter, and it is entirely possible to find that you were killed while you were logged out. But how and why does this happen?
Logging out does not actually remove you from the game. Your body remains in game and appears to be sleeping. That is a serious matter, and it is not a defect. It is an intended game mechanic.
Just logging out on your sleeping bag will never suffice!
Lets discuss the many reasons you can die while out in the open.
Dinos, yeah Dinos, both the terrestrial kind and the aerial kind can and will kill you. You can have a completely enclosed metal box and a therizino reach through a wall and kill you. (had that happen to me.) Spawns happen in a zone not just one tiny spot. Therefore they can at restart spawn in your base.
Elements, Elements mean not only heat and cold, though those have killed many a survivor in ARK, but also THIRST and HUNGER. So log out in a temperature controlled place and EAT and DRINK before logging out locked to a bed.
RESTARTS, yup you heard me, Restarts.... HOW you ask, well a restart can cause the mesh data to shift about a meter when initiating for the morning restart. Meaning you were on your bunk bed locked on all nice and cozy, AND now your hanging half out a wall and a raptor is chewing your face off. (true story)
Alphy's Advice on Logging out!
For true safety (still not 100%), you need to be in a house. That includes a full roof, walls, and a door. Preferably a locked door. Thatch will do in the early levels, but progress to wood and then stone ASAP! If deaths start occurring, Create a "Sleep room",(Sleep Room = Small 2x2 or larger room either on a second floor, or on the ground with a hole in the center for bare ground). Please keep your doors, chests, and other types of inventory items LOCKED. ALWAYS put your inventory and GEARS in a storage of some sort.
